St. Apollinaris Religious Education Program
For the past 50 years the St Apollinaris Religious Education Program has provided the religious training and spiritual formation for our children and youth attending public schools. This is one of the most important ministries of the church: "Go forth and teach all Nations" is our primary purpose. We prepare our children to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion. We work closely with the parents, affirming their role as the primary teachers of their children and supporting them in their efforts to pass on this rich heritage and the traditions of the Catholic faith.
We focus on helping the child:
- Grow to know God, not just to know about but to develop a lasting relationhip with God
- Grow in knowledge and understanding of the Sacraments of the Church in order to celebrate these sacraments, in particular Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation, with meaning and joy.
- Study and understand the moral principals and values which, as a Catholic Christian, guide our lives in accordance with God's design and purpose and the dignity of each person.
- Learn the many ways in which we communicate with God in prayer - formal and traditional prayers, spontaneous prayer, liturgical prayer and in particular, the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Our program provides quality faith formation and education for children ranging from TK - 5th grade. Children 6th grade and older continue their faith journey through the Youth Ministry department that expands their education and prepares them for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation.
St. Apollinaris will be offering both an "In-Person Religious Education & Confirmation Program" and a "Distance-Learning Religious Ed & Confirmation Program."
Once you select which program you would like your child to be a part of, they must remain in that program throughout the year. For example, a student registered for in-person learning cannot switch to distance learning halfway through the year.
What would the In-Person program look like?
Each week, your child will attend a Religious Education Class on Wednesday from 3:30 pm-4:45 pm at the St. Apollinaris.
What the Distance-Learning classes for Religious Education look like?
Each week, your child will need to complete a lesson from their catechism book and submit their work to their teacher by Sunday at 8:00 pm. Please note that this is an essential step in tracking your child's participation. More than three weeks of missing assignments over the year may result in the need to repeat a year in this process.
Families can access instructional videos about the weekly session online. Once they have watched the short video, they can move forward to complete their work.
Every month, your child will be required to attend a live Zoom class. These virtual meetings are mandatory. The dates for these meetings will be on the calendar for distance learners.
We have also scheduled a book pick-up after all the Masses on Sunday, September 12th, for families to receive their children's materials for distance learning.
